Happy Holidays at Cats Country Club |

Important Information
- Put simply, one innoculation, for three conditions, is all that is required for
your cat(s) to board here at Cats Country Club.
- In detail, your cat(s) must have been vaccinated within
the last 12 months against upper respiratory disease -
cat flu
and
feline infectious enteritis.
The core feline vaccines need to be in place to provide specific
protection from the conditions mentioned above are specifically detailed here;
feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) (responsible for enteritis),
feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV1) (responsible for cat flu) and
feline calicivirus (FCV) (responsible for cat flu).
For more information, further reading and links on Cat flu and vaccination and allied issues,
please check our FAQ.
We will not be able to take your cat(s) for boarding without an up to date
vaccination certificate. Vaccinations should be boosted annually and this
should be done at least seven days before the cat is to be boarded. Please
bring this documentation with you or be ready to let us have sight of it in respect
of collections.
The use of other non-core vaccines cannot necessarily be justified, neither
are they necessarily advisable in all circumstances and the use of these vaccines should
be determined on a case-by-case basis according to individual needs. Other non-core
vaccinations include - chlamydophila
(formerly known as chlamydia),
feline leukaemia (FeLV), feline bordetellosis
(Bordetella bronchiseptica) and feline immunodeficiency virus
(FIV) but as mentioned, these are not absolutely necessary, not necessarily of proven efficacy or even
currently available in the UK. A rabies
vaccine is only required when traversing country borders into the UK.
- Included in the boarding fees we charge, is a Pet insurance fee which covers any
veterinary expenses (up to £1,250) or for total loss (although that's never happened!) should
your cat(s) become ill whilst at Cats Country Club, however cats will not be covered
under our Pet insurance policy for an existing complaint/condition. This depth of
policy is not available with all boarding catteries by any means. Many catteries have no insurance
policy at all, it is not a compulsory licensing requirement!
- We ask all our clients to ensure all worming and flea treatments
are up to date before boarding here for their own health and to help prevent any risk
of infection to others. Anectodal experience seems to suggest that many shop bought
products do not seem to address the more obvious potential flea problem, also, correct application
of all products in this area is absolutely key to success. As a result, please seek advice from
your vet for a suitable and effective program. Should we find signs of fleas whilst your cat is with
us, this is our policy.
- Home Collection & Delivery -
this service is available to any of our customers Monday to Saturday,
- The vet we use is Julia M Boness, at the Boness Veterinary Hospital in Barton. The practice has been dealing with
companion animals for Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire since 1990 and boasts many state of the
art facilities and services, including the Beds Vets Emergency Service serving the region
24 hours a day, 7 days a week - both are just three miles away from us.
Pre-booking preparation (what to bring) and the journey to/from Cats Country Club
- Cardboard cat carrying baskets are not ideal for transporting your cat to
and from Cats Country Club (for both security and hygiene reasons) - plus they
don't work well when wet!! We would recommend that the security of all
clasps and locks on cat travel boxes are checked for soundness before
departing to/from us.
- Please ** do not ** carry your cat down to the cattery, or
back to the car, outside of it's carrying box. One unforeseen struggle and it will be gone and in unfamiliar
surroundings, we can't be held responsible for such occurrences!
- Please ** do not ** feed your
cat prior to travel. If you're coming in the morning, nothing to eat after 8pm
the night before. If you're coming in the evening, nothing after a very conservative
morning feed. They will be fed here on arrival, or shortly after they have
settled, in any case, they eat when they're ready!! If your cat is not a good
traveller, it is infinitely preferable for your
cat and everybody concerned, for it not to be stressed out and covered in
sick and/or poo on its' arrival here!
- Bed/bedding - something 'smelling of home' - please don't freshly wash
your cat's bed as the main purpose of it 'smelling of home' is that it does
just that! Many cats will wee on their bed to take away the freshly washed
smell that us humans like, when the only other smells around are those of a
freshly disinfected cat run - not good!
- Please take any bedding out of the travel box - your cat will not get cold
in the travel box, however many cats find travel the most stressful part
of coming to the cattery - 'the car experience' - so if lined with newspaper,
turned up at the edges, anything they do decide to do will be contained
and be readily washable. Please line their travelling carrier with clean
newspaper to help absorb any accidents that should occur, this helps ensure
that they arrive here as happy as possible. It's not easy dealing with the
very worst of their ablutions squashed into their fleecy bedding!
- Innoculation certificate's.
- Any specific dietary requirements you may want us to give to your cat(s).
- Some people also bring a small scratching post, but it's not obligatory.
- For those with long-haired cats, please ensure your cat's coats are not matted and in need of
trimming and/or grooming prior to their stay here. It is not necessarily possible to remedy coat-related
problems without a trip to the vet and these are considered pre-existing conditions, so are not
covered by our insurance policy.
